When the normal 10:15am interval bell sounds, students and their class teachers need to meet and line up on the outdoor basketball court for an event briefing.
YEAR 7 SPECIALIST LESSONS ON WEDNESDAY 26th OCTOBER:
Unfortunately there will be no specialist lessons for year 7 students on Wednesday 26th October as the Specialist teaching team are required to help with the athletics day.
Specialist lessons for year 8 on Thursday 27th October will continue as usual, however sports leaders will be unable to attend these lessons as they will be supporting the running of the year 7 athletics day.
FINISHING TIME / LUNCH / ORGANISATION:
The athletics day is scheduled to finish at approx. 2:25pm. Students and class teachers will be provided with a lunch break from 12:15pm – 12:45pm. All students must eat their lunch and stay on the Heaton field during this time (court areas will be out of bounds for the year level taking part in the athletics day). A reminder that on the date of your year level athletics day you will need a packed lunch from home, water bottle and plenty of healthy snacks to eat throughout the day.
WEATHER:
In the event of a poor scheduled weather forecast, please still come to school prepared to participate and Mr Evers will communicate any cancellations via the school daily notices and our Heaton app.
UNIFORM:
Students are to compete in their Heaton PE uniform (PE shorts please), with the option of wearing house coloured t-shirts and accessories. The House Colours have been outlined below for your convenience.
- Raukawa = Green
- Hīnau = Black
- Kōwhai = Yellow
- Tūrutu = Blue
- Kōtukutuku = Purple
- Amoka = Red
Students must arrive at school in their PE Kit and colours so they are ready to compete. Please note that our Heaton Athletics day is not a mufti day, so jeans and non-athletic casual wear is not permitted. Students can transition home in their PE kit, so bringing full school uniform will not be required on the day of your event
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS (WHAT TO BRING):
- Packed lunch with plenty of healthy healthy snacks (N.B. students cannot purchase food from the canteen for morning tea so please ensure you are prepared and have sufficient food)
- Spikes can be worn during track races (sprints), however are not required. There are to be no spikes used during high jump under any circumstances
- Water bottle
- Heaton hat
- Suitable PE footwear (no flip flops etc.)
- Sun protection
- All relevant personal medication e.g. Ventolin, epipen
- Students will NOT require their phones on athletics day so please do not bring them with you or use them throughout the days activities. Photos will be taken with the school cameras, and your class teachers will have access to these. Please ask a teacher if you want a photo with your friends.
- Please bring your lunch and all equipment you need for the day with you, so you do not need to transition to/from your classroom to collect personal belongings. As we are going through a rebuild and have to pass through the gate system, this is extremely important.
SCHEDULE:
The schedule may be subject to changes throughout the day. Track events (60m and 100m sprints) always get priority over field events (jumping and throwing disciplines). If you are called to marshal for a track event, please let the teacher(s) in charge of your field event know that you will be leaving to run your race and that you will return to complete your field event asap.

SPECTATOR INFORMATION (PARENTS/CAREGIVERS) – please read carefully if you are planning to attend:
Parents/Caregivers are both welcome and encouraged to attend and support their children at our Heaton athletics day. Due to the school undergoing our rebuild work, parking inside Heaton is not possible and access to the field via the school will be challenging.
We ask that any spectators and visitors park on Heaton street, and enter our Heaton field via the walkway through the trees that is front of the Elmwood tennis courts. Thank you for your support, it is greatly appreciated.
