Heaton Cross Country Team 2024

Meeting Time: All students are required to meet Mrs Dore and Mrs Ebrahim in the Heaton hall at 9:50am. The team bus will depart promptly at 10:20am so please ensure you are prompt and organised.

If your parent/caregiver would prefer to take you directly to the venue in the morning, they must contact Mrs Prinsep via email before Friday 22nd June.

Event Times:

  • Year 7 Girls (3km) – 11:30am start time
  • Year 7 Boys (3km) – 11:50am start time (approx.)
  • Year 8 Girls (3km) – 12:10pm start time (approx.)
  • Year 8 Boys (3km) – 12:30pm start time (approx.)
  • Prize-giving will commence at approx. 12:50pm

Marshalling Assistance: If you are attending the event to watch and support your son/daughter and you are able to assist Primary Sports Canterbury with marshalling duties, please contact Mrs Prinsep prior to Friday 22nd June email link here. Any support would be greatly appreciated.

Cost: As the Cross Country Championships is an opt-in (user pay) opportunity, participation will incur a cost that covers the return bus trip to Ngā Puna Wai. Risk Management (Primary Sports Canterbury)

Equipment Requirements: Please note, spikes cannot be used for this event

  • Heaton PE Kit
  • Packed lunch with sufficient healthy snacks
  • Lots of water
  • All relevant personal medication e.g. ventolin, epipen
  • Tracksuit pants, a weatherproof jacket and warm-over garment top
  • Spare shoes
  • Spare socks
  • Plastic bag to transport any wet or muddy clothing

Additional Information: If for any reason you no longer wish to take part or are sick on the day of the event, please email Mrs Prinsep asap so the opportunity can be offered to another student on our waiting list.

  • Pack down: 1:00pm after the last race
  • Food/coffee: This will be at the Ngā Puna Wai Café or at the Coffee Cart (these are pointed out on the map)
  • Course Marshalls: Please meet Chelsea from 9.45am inside the Athletics Track at the finish line to collect your map and marshal placement number. 
    Bringing warm clothes and a bag with water and food to take out on the course is a good idea. See attached document for all information. This person must stay in place for all 9 races even if the school they represent is only entered in a certain race. As you are a marshal you play a highly important role on the day to encourage participants as they go past and direct the children in the right direction. – Please note CAIMS MARSHALLS MEET AT 11:00am TO SWAP WITH ON COURSE MARSHALLS AND COLLECT NUMBERS.
  • Parking: There is more parking onsite now with the new Netball Centre opened. 
  • Exiting the venue: There are now 2 exits from NPW. One is Augustine Drive, and the other is now McMahon Drive (straight out to Dunbars Road or right towards Wigram on Aidanfield). 
  • Zones: Please make sure ALL athletes know what zone they are in. They will be with their zone manager for the day. The need to know their zone so they can collect their number from the manager. 
    Please see the map attached for zone placement within the Athletics Track. 
  • Zone managers: On the day come to the Athletics tower to collect race numbers to distribute to your zone participants. See attached document for all information. 
  • First aid: St John will be there on the day. 
  • Results: These will be up on our website asap. The link will be on the events tab.
