CAIMS Winter Tournament 2024

On Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th August 2024, Primary Sports Canterbury is hosting an inter-school CAIMS Tournament. Please ensure you read the following information carefully so you are prepared for this exciting opportunity. A huge thank you to all of our Heaton staff and our community helpers for their efforts in making this event possible for our students. Please check the blog each day this week as new information will be updated as soon as it is received i.e. draws, specific meeting times etc.

PARTICIPATION LIST (who has been invited to take part in each sport?):

If you do not wish to participate or cannot attend for any reason, you must email Mrs Prinsep before 9:00am on Tuesday 13th August to allow the opportunity to be extended to other players. 

DATES: The competitions take place on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th August. The tournament will run all day.

  • Squash – Chch Squash
  • Table Tennis – TTC Stadium
  • Basketball – Pioneer Stadium
  • Football Open and Girls – South Hagley
  • Hockey – Nunweek Park

CODE OF CONDUCT: All participating students must ensure they read and follow our school representative sports code of conduct: Heaton Code of Conduct (CARE)

COST: Participation in the CAIMs Summer Tournament is based on our user-pay model (opt-in) and will involve a cost that covers return transportation to the event and tournament expenses. These costs will be added to your school account. If you have any questions or no longer wish for your child to take part, please contact Mrs Prinsep

  • Rugby Sevens – Mrs Clarkson 
  • Netball – Miss Christie 
  • Table Tennis – Christine Monday, Robin Tuesday
  • Basketball – Mr Grant
  • Football – Girls: Mr Naidoo
  • Football – Open: Mr Cooper
  • Hockey – Mrs Cumming

Referee/Umpire support for Netball and Rugby Sevens: If you can provide support with officiating throughout the tournament, please send Mrs Prinsep an email. 

STUDENT EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

Please ensure you have the following equipment to ensure your success on tournament day:

  • Packed lunch with plenty of healthy snacks.
  • Water bottle.
  • Heaton PE kit or assigned uniform.
  • Any specific sports equipment you require for your code e.g. rugby boots, hockey sticks, shin pads, mouth guards, racquets etc. 
  • Warm clothing/blanket 
  • Sunblock and sunhat.
  • Spare shoes for outdoor codes (in the event of rain and mud)
  • All personal medication you require e.g. EpiPen, Ventolin
  • Please note, there will be no gum or fizzy/sports drinks permitted.

Rugby Sevens – Players must wear a mouthguard.  
Hockey – Players must wear mouthguards and shinpads.
Netball – Players must wear regulation bibs, ie positions named. Please remind all players: NO jewellery or taped earrings, and short nails and correct footwear.
Football – Players must wear shinpads.
Table Tennis – Teams are required to supply all equipment, if support is required make direct contact to Table Tennis Canterbury. 
Basketball – No basketballs inside the venue. Players must wear mouthguards.

MEETING LOCATIONS AND TIMES:

Monday 19th August 

Basketball and Netball Bus 1

  • Please meet in the PAC at 8:00am, bus will depart promptly at 8:20am
  • Managers meeting begins at 9:10am, first game is 10am

Football Open and Football Girls Bus 2

  • Please meet in the hall quad 8:10am, bus will depart promptly at 8:30am
  • Managers meeting begins at 9.10am, first game is for open 10:15am, girls 9.30am

Hockey and Rugby Sevens Bus 3 

  • Please meet in the hall at 8:30am, bus will depart promptly at 8.50am
  • Managers meeting begins at 9.10am. Hockey first game is 9:30am, Rugby Sevens first game 10am. 

Table Tennis Staff Transport 

  • Please meet at the flag pole at 8:25am, your transport will depart promptly at 8:45am
  • Managers meeting begins at 9:20am, first game is 9.30am

Tuesday 20th August 

Basketball and Netball Bus 1

  • Please meet in the PAC at 8:50am, bus will depart promptly at 9:20am. Netball  first game is 10am, Basketball round 6 starts 11am. 

Football Open and Football Girls Bus 2

  • Please meet in the hall quad 8:10am, bus will depart promptly at 8:30am. First games at 9.30am

Hockey and Rugby Sevens 

  • Please meet in the hall at 8:30am, bus will depart promptly at 8.50am
  • Hockey first game is 10:30am, Rugby Sevens first game is 9.30am

Table Tennis Staff Transport 

  • Please meet at the flag pole at 8:50am, first game is 10.30am

BUS GROUPINGS:

Table Tennis – Staff transport Monday, school van Tuesday

Bus 1: Football Open and Football Girls – to South Hagley

Bus 2: Netball and Basketball– sharing a bus. Drop off one: South Hagley, drop off two: Pioneer Stadium

Bus 3: Hockey and Rugby Sevens– to Nunweek Park

WHO TO INFORM IF I AM ABSENT?: If you are absent on the tournament day, you or your caregiver must email your teacher in charge. Only email Mrs Prinsep if you are unable to get in touch with the teacher in charge e.g. Mr Naidoo for football girls. 

EXPECTED BUS RETURN TIMES: It is expected that students will return to school at approx. 3:00pm. Once draws have been released, I will be sure to share any changes to this information. Any updates if there are delays will be posted to HERO the day of the event.
