CJCA Cricket Festival Information

FESTIVAL INFORMATION: 

  • Schools supply their own scorers and match balls.
  • CJCA will set up grounds and aims to supply umpires for all games.
  • Games will start at 9.15am each day with afternoon games scheduled for a 12:45 pm start but this can be brought forward if both teams are ready. If games run their course we hope to finish no later than 4pm each day.
  • Bowlers are limited to 3 overs per bowler up to 9 bowlers may be used.  Should a game be reduced to less than 15 overs bowlers will be limited to 2 overs.
  • Over Length: 6 balls except the last over overs can be a maximum of 8 balls
  • To avoid confusion batting retirements have been reduced to 25 balls per batter in line with CJCA Saturday Intermediate rules – batters may bat the over out after receiving 25 balls INCLUDING WIDES OR NO BALLS.
  • A Grace Period (6 balls) will exist with players who go onto retire after being dismissed in their Grace Period not being able to return.
  • Retired batters (who are not dismissed in their Grace Period) may return in order in which they retired should the rest of the batters be dismissed – Last Boys Standing exists in this Festival.

MEETING TIMES & LOCATIONS:

Students are required to meet Mrs Henderson at the flag pole promptly at 7:45am and should arrive at school wearing their cricket whites, Heaton PE top and Heaton cap. 

GAME TIMES AND STUDENT COLLECTION:

It is expected that students will be finished for the day at approx 3:45pm. Students will need to be collected directly from Hagley Park, and they must check in with Mr Brown or Mrs Henderson before departure so we know that you are leaving with a trusted adult.

If your son is unable to be collected from Hagley Park on either or both competition days, please communicate this with Mrs Henderson via email so alternate arrangements can be made. Alternatively, if your son will be carpooling with another family, please make contact so a record can be kept to manage student collection.

PARENT HELP: If your parents plan on attending the competition to watch you compete, and they would be willing to help throughout the day e.g. scoring duties, please ask them to contact Mrs Henderson (hendersonk@heaton.school.nz)

Canterbury AIMS Athletics Championships 2023

Congratulations on being selected to represent our school at the 2022 CAIMS Athletics Championships. Please ensure you read the following information carefully and show your whānau so you are up to speed about all event details.

Date: Thursday 23rd November 2023

Meeting Time: 

Students are required to meet Mrs Henderson promptly at 7:30am in the Heaton Hall. Students will be transported to/from the venue via bus. If your parents/caregivers would like to transport you directly to the venue in a private vehicle, you must inform Mrs Henderson via email (hendersonk@heaton.school.nz) before 3:00pm on Monday 20th November.

  • NO sports equipment is allowed to be brought along to play with whilst waiting for events
  • Please encourage your students NOT to go into the plantings around the athletics track at Ngā Puna Wai.
  • School pop up’s can come and be pitched along the embankment but NO Marquees.
  • Food and coffee vendors will be there on the day.
  • If there was a need for a cancellation this will be made at 7:00am on Thursday 23rd November and be posted on our Facebook, through email and on our website homepage.
  • Starting blocks must be used if spikes are worn in sprint races to avoid damage to the track. They will be provided by Athletics Canterbury. No other blocks are approved to be used on the track. If in spikes and you haven’t used blocks before, then you will need to do a standing start, not a crouch start.

CAIMS Swim Championships 2023

The Canterbury AIMS Schools Sports Council wants this event to cater for positive participation in a non-threatening environment. This event is, however, a sanctioned swimming meet and there are disqualifications, so please ensure you read your specific race rules  e.g. two-handed touch requirements for breaststroke

Meeting Time & Organisation: Students will be transported to/from the venue by bus. Students are required to meet in the Heaton Intermediate hall, promptly at 7:10am The bus will depart school no later than 7:30 am, as any competitor that reports late to the marshalling area will not be accepted for racing. We anticipate that we will return to school by 3 pm. There will be a message sent via Hero if we are running late.

Heaton Tennis Championships 2023

TOURNAMENT DATE: Thursday 16th February

LOCATION: Elmwood Tennis Club (next door to Heaton Intermediate)

MEETING TIME: 

  • Open draw participants are required to meet Mrs Henderson promptly at 8:00am at the Heaton flagpole 
  • Female draw participants are to meet promptly at 10:15am at the Heaton flagpole (when the morning tea bell sounds). Ms Laifa and Mrs Cummings will deliver them to the Elmwood Tennis Courts. 
  • Students will return to school at the completion of their match(es) via the Heaton field and will sign back in at the student office. 

TOURNAMENT TIME: The tournament will be played during the school day (8:15am – 2:00pm)

WEATHER: In the event of rain or poor weather, I will notify families via Hero. The tournament will be postponed until the following Thursday. 

PARTICIPANTS (Who is taking part): Please access the link below to see who has registered for the tournament. We have had a huge amount of interest this year which is fantastic! Due to the high number of participants, the competition will be a knockout draw. When students lose their match, they will return to Heaton and continue with their normal school day/routines. This means that participants must have their full school uniform with them, and all the class equipment they require for the day.

Inter-Schools Triathlon 2023

Date: Tuesday 14th March

If for any reason you are no longer able to take part in this event, please email Mrs Henderson (hendersonk@heaton.school.nz) before 9:00am on Monday 13th March so Primary Sport Canterbury can be updated on the changes.

Venue: South Eyre Rd (near West Eyreton) ~ 27km from the start of South Eyre turning off Tram Rd at Clarkville. The event is held on private property so no site inspection or swimming in the lake is allowed. Reporting & Event Times: Race briefing for participants and marshals is 9:45am. Because of the potential traffic hazard, all competitors must report at this time. The first race will commence by 10.30am. It is unlikely that any competitors who report late and who miss the briefing will be accepted for racing.

Collecting Bikes: All bikes must be left in transition until all competitors in all age groups have finished their races.

Cancellation: Any cancellation information will be posted on the P.S.C Website (www.primarysportscanterbury.org.nz). There is no postponement date, so a cancellation will not occur unless the weather conditions are extreme.

WEEKLY DRAWS, GAME DAY INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION

All weekly results and draws are posted on the Canterbury Water Polo website.  It is the responsibility of students to ensure they check the weekly draw and be poolside 15 minutes prior to your game start time so you can meet your coaches. Please arrive at games wearing your Heaton PE shirt over the top of your togs, so you are easily recognisable by your coaches. The weekly draw is accessible via the Canterbury Water Polo website:

If you are unable to attend a game, students must communicate this with Mrs Henderson via email (hendersonk@heaton.school.nz). This way we can ensure we have sufficient numbers for each game and can organise replacement players if required.

CAP COLOUR & GAME TIMES
  • If you are the first team named on the draw, you will be wearing white caps.
  • Games will be played at Jellie Park and can be scheduled anywhere between 6:45 and 9:30pm
  • Games are 20 minutes and are made up of 4×5 minute quarters.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Water Polo Competition is an opt-in (user-pay model), so participation incurs a cost that will be added to your school account. Once the termly cost has been finalised, the confirmed amount will be added to your school account and full payment must be received prior to the second game
