Heaton Athletics Days 2022

Term 3 Korfball Tournament 2022

Being at the tournament was an amazing experience and opportunity. Most of us almost tripped on our way to Hagley Park because of all the excitement. Group of teams were said aloud and we all encouraged each other. Many people were feeling anxious for their first game but they also were super excited to be playing Korfball and missing out on school. Everyone had high expectations in participating and it was a great opportunity to play with people from other classes and years that they didn’t know. At the end of the day everyone was so worn out, tired, and sore. Most importantly we wore our school uniform with confidence and showed the Heaton values.

Tusi & Lucy (Room 8)

On Monday the 19th of September the Heaton Korfball teams went to the Hagley park netball courts for their Korfball tournaments against other schools. Once there they had round robin matches in the morning and then they had competition matches after lunch.

Our Heaton Korfball teams did astonishingly well that day with some awesome sportsmanship and skill. The teachers Mrs. Eames, Mr. Colvin and Mr. Evers helped escort our teams to Hagley park. Heaton #4 came 11th, Heaton #3 came 12th, Heaton #2 came 13th, Heaton #1 came 15th, Heaton #5 and came 17th.

AIMS Games Individual Athletes 2022

Four devoted individual athletes travelled to Tauranga this year to represent Heaton in the 2022 Zespri AIMS Games Championships. We are so proud of the dedication you all demonstrated to train and prepare for this fantastic opportunity. It takes many hours of hard work, focus, sacrifice and discipline for individual athletes, and we are so happy that you were all rewarded for your incredible efforts. A big thank you must also go to our athletes families for all of their support in providing this opportunity for your children.

CAIMS Invitational Tournament 2022

The 2022 CAIMS Winter & Indoor Tournament was a fantastic success for our Heaton athletes!

There were 125 teams from 14 Canterbury intermediate and middle schools gathered in venues across Christchurch for the annual CAIMS two day tournament. With nine sporting codes on offer (badminton, basketball, football, hockey, netball, rugby sevens, squash, table tennis and volleyball), Heaton were extremely well represented with the largest number of teams entered out of any school.

The improvements over the two competition days were amazing, as were the attitudes from our student representatives. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated staff and adult volunteers for making this opportunity possible. We would also like to recognise our three Heaton teams that won their competitions

  • Open Football Champions
  • Girls’ Football Champions
  • Rugby 7’s Champions (Heaton Kowhai)

Cross Country Fun 2022

Blessed with the most perfect winter weather, our two cross country events for 2022 were a huge success!

Our Heaton event was so competently coordinated by our year 7 and 8 sports leaders. A big thank you to those students for all of their energy and efforts. There was a fantastic supportive atmosphere at Elmwood park for both the recreational and competitive races this year.

The Canterbury Championships took place at Nga Puna Wai, and involved hundreds of dedicated primary and middle school athletes from all over our region. Our top 40 Heaton participants represented our school with amazing spirit, energy and pride. There were some fantastic results overall, but Mason (room 1) certainly needs to be recognised for his spectacular run to finish 2nd place overall in the year 8 male event.

Heaton Swimming Sports 2022

We feel very fortunate to have been able to hold our annual Heaton swimming sports this year with all of the current covid restrictions. This would not have been possible without the amazing support of Mrs Dore, Mrs Smith and our dedicated caregiver helpers Courtney Laifa, Jeremy Leeming, Craig Drennan, Michelle Moore, Iain Cave, Ali Harper, Leigh Ginnever and Stacey Mullinger. Thank you all for your amazing support throughout the day.

Congratulations to all swimmers (new and experienced) for their superb efforts!
