COST:
Participation in Kōru Games Tournament is based on our user-pay model (opt-in) and will involve a cost that covers return transportation to the event and tournament expenses. These costs will be added to your school account and are required to be paid before the first day of tournament. If you have any questions or no longer wish for your child to take part, please contact Mrs Henderson.

STUDENT EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: Please ensure you have the following equipment to ensure your success on tournament day:

  • Packed lunch with plenty of healthy snacks.
  • Water bottle.
  • Heaton PE kit or assigned uniform.
  • Any specific sports equipment you require for your code e.g. rugby boots, hockey sticks, shin pads, mouth guards, etc. 
  • Warm clothing in the event of wind or cold weather.
  • Sunblock and sunhat.
  • Spare shoes for outdoor codes (in the event of rain and mud)
  • All personal medication you require e.g. EpiPen, Ventolin

Please note, there will be no gum or fizzy/sports drinks permitted.

MEETING TIMES & LOCATIONS

Please note the logistics below are based on timings from previous years, and may be subject to change closer to the time.

Logistics: Meeting Times, Locations & Buses

Day One: Opening Ceremony

  • Meeting Time: All athletes must meet in the school hall at 7:50 AM.
  • Departure: Buses will depart from school at 8:15 AM and head directly to the Selwyn Events Centre in Rolleston for the opening ceremony (9:30 AM – 10:05 AM).
  • Post-Ceremony: All athletes will remain in Rolleston and move to their sports grounds, except for teams travelling to Lincoln Venues. 
  • The netball, rippa rugby, and korfball teams will get back on their bus after the opening ceremony and be dropped off at their respective venues: Selwyn Netball Centre (Netball & Rippa Rugby) and Lincoln University (Korfball).

Day One – Return Times

All games finished by 2:30 PM. I anticipate that with traffic, bus 1 and bus 3 will return to school after 3pm. I will send an update via Hero as buses leave the grounds with an estimated time of arrival. 

  • Bus 1: Basketball, Football, Hockey 
  • Bus 2: Netball, Rippa Rugby, Korfball 
  • Bus 3: Touch

Days Two & Three Timings

  • Meeting Time: All athletes must meet in the school hall at 7:50 AM.
  • Departure: Buses will depart from school at 8:15 AM.
  • We expect return times to be similar throughout the tournament – I will update Hero as we depart the sporting grounds. 

Merchandise

Orders will be available for collection on Tuesday morning from 11:00 am at the Rolleston Hub. If you could please send me an email if you have placed an order for Merchandise that needs to be collected. There will also be a range of merchandise items for sale (cash only).

Absences

If, for any reason, your child is unavailable due to sickness or injury, please email me ASAP so that I can pass the message on to our coaches and find a replacement if necessary. Thank you for your help with this!

I look forward to seeing some of you at the sporting venues over the three days, but if you are unable to make it, please download the Selwyn Trust App – scores and results will be updated quickly after matches conclude. 

Please note that we will likely be returning to school after 3 p.m. on these three days as some games conclude at 2:45 p.m. I will communicate via the Hero App our ETA each day.

Girls’ Cricket Festival – Term 1, 2025

We are excited to provide our girls cricket team with a tournament opportunity for term 1! A huge thank you to Mrs Edge for providing her time to ensure this tournament is an opportunity that can be provided for our girl’s cricket players. Please read the following information carefully with your whānau, so you are up to speed with all relevant details. If for any reason you no longer wish to be involved or are unable to take part, please email Mrs Edge (edgew@heaton.school.nz) and Mrs Henderson (hendersonk@heaton.school.nz) before 9am on Tuesday so team adjustments can be made.

Finish Times:

It is expected that the days play will finish around 3pm and students return to school shortly after. If you are able to collect your from St Albans Park, that would be appreciated – please ensure you sign out with Mrs Edge before leaving.

If you have made plans for your daughter to be collected by another adult or you are having trouble arranging collection, please communicate this with Kate Henderson (hendersonk@heaton.school.nz) or Wendy Edge (edgew@heaton.school.nz) via email before 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Meeting Times / Locations:

Students are required to meet at the Heaton flagpole at 8:15 a.m. We will be departing promptly at 8:30am. Students should arrive at school in their Heaton Cricket top (provided) and cricket whites as trousers. Please aim to borrow these from a friend or make contact with Wendy Edge or Kate Henderson if you are having issues. All students must have a Heaton hat. 

Transportation to St Albans Park

Students will be transported to the venue in our two Heaton vans, driven by Mrs. Edge and Mr. Terris.

  • At the conclusion of the tournament, we kindly ask that you collect your daughter from St Albans Park at 3 p.m. If this is not possible, please contact Mrs. Edge to arrange transportation back to school.

Tournament Resources:

Injuries / Availability: 

If you have any injury concerns or sickness, or you cannot participate on Friday, please make contact with both Mrs Henderson and Mrs Edge.

Equipment Requirements:

  • All personal cricket equipment e.g. pads, bat, gloves (if you have these). Additional equipment will be provided for those student who does not have any.
  • PE uniform 
  • White cricket trousers – please try to borrow these if you do not have your own.
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Heaton Hat
  • Packed lunch with plenty of healthy snacks (no chewing gum, fizzy drinks etc.)
  • All relevant personal medication e.g. EpiPen, Ventolin etc.

Weather:

Any cancellations due to weather will be communicated by 7:45am (at the latest) and will be sent out via Hero. The information will also be posted in the student daily notices.

Heaton Korfball 2022

2022 Heaton Korfball Students – Yr.7 & Yr.8

The 2022 weekly korfball training sessions will commence on Wednesday 1st June (Yr.7) and Friday 10th June (Yr.8).  At the end of each term there will be an inter-school tournament day, where players will get an opportunity to compete against a range of other schools in the city. Specific information about these tournaments will be communicated to players and shared via the daily notices and blog leading up to each event.

On your scheduled training day, please meet Mrs Eames in the hall at 7:45am. You should be wearing your PE kit and have a water bottle with you.

If you have both korfball and hockey training commitments on a Wednesday morning, please alternate which of these you attend. Any student in this situation will need to communicate with Ms Caygill via email so she is aware of your commitments.

If for any reason you no longer wish to be involved in the korfball club, please email Mrs Eames or Mr Evers.
