TOURNAMENT DATE: Monday 24th February 

LOCATION: Elmwood Tennis Club (next door to Heaton Intermediate)

MEETING TIME: 

  • Open draw participants are required to meet Mrs Henderson promptly at 8:30am at the Heaton flagpole. 
  • Female draw participants are to meet promptly at 10:15am at the Heaton flagpole (when the morning tea bell sounds). A staff member will walk you down to the Elmwood Tennis Courts. 
  • Students will return to school after their match(es) via the Heaton field and MUST sign back in at the student office. 

TOURNAMENT TIME: The tournament will be played during the school day (9am – 2:30pm)

WEATHER: In the event of rain or poor weather, I will notify families via Hero. The tournament will be postponed.

The competition will be a knockout draw. When students lose their match, they will return to Heaton and continue with their normal school day/routines. This means that participants must have their full school uniform with them, and all the class equipment they require for the day.

If for any reason you can no longer take part, please email Mrs Henderson asap so the draw can be readjusted

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Packed lunch with healthy snacks (just in case you progress all the way through the tournament)
  • Heaton Hat
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen (Mrs Henderson will also provide some school sunscreen)
  • Tennis Racquet and 1 x new tennis ball (Please let Mrs Henderson know if you do not own your own racquet)
  • Appropriate Footwear (PE/Sports Shoes)
  • Heaton PE Kit – Open-grade students need to arrive at school wearing their PE kit, however, must have their full school uniform with them so they can change at the conclusion of their matches.
  • All personal medication e.g. Ventolin, Epipen etc.

Tennis Tournament

February 14th, 2024

We had a great turnout for the Heaton Tennis Tournament 2024, with a beautiful day of sunshine. We had a lot of competitive matches and quality tennis games that were wonderful to watch.

Well done and congratulations to all those who competed. You had amazing sportsmanship, a wonderful attitude and the respect for one enough was great to see. We would like to share our thanks and appreciation to Elmwood Tennis Club for supporting us in hosting our Tennis Tournament. It was a fabulous day!!

Our female competition champion for 2024 is Gracie W (R5) who had a thrilling match against Stella B (R7) with third place going to Georgie M (R9) after a competitive match against Bella R (R7).

Our open competition champion for 2024 is Weston I (R12) after a competitive match against Bass R (R13). Macsen I (R4) placed third after an awesome match against Gus D (R16)

  • Girls draw participants are required to meet Mrs Prinsep at 9:30am at the Heaton Hall 
  • Open draw participants are to meet Mrs Prinsep promptly at end of morning tea 10:35am at the Heaton Hall (when the morning tea bell sounds).
  • Students will return to school at the completion of their match(es) via the Heaton field and will sign back in at the student office. 

TOURNAMENT TIME: The tournament will be played during the school day (9:30am – 3:00pm)

WEATHER: In the event of rain or poor weather, I will notify families via Hero. The tournament will be postponed TBC

Due to the high number of participants, the competition will be a knockout draw. When students lose their match, they will return to Heaton and continue with their normal school day/routines. Tennis Tournament

What a great turnout we had for our Heaton Tennis Tournament! Despite the rain, we had some high-quality tennis and some competitive matches. A highlight was seeing our more experienced players supporting and guiding our players who were new to tennis. Well done and congratulations to all participants for showing fantastic sportsmanship, support and respect. A big thank you to Elmwood Tennis Club for hosting and supporting this fabulous event.

  • Our female champion this year was Tessa Meng (Room 15) in a tightly contested final against Lily Doyle (Room 20). Third place went to Stella Brown.
  • Oliver Parnham (Room 12) took out our open-grade tournament this year with a roughly fought final against Ruben Hartland (Room 9).

Heaton Tennis Championships 2022

What a wonderful day of tennis for our Heaton athletes! There were a number of fantastic performances and close matches this year. We had an exciting mix of social/beginners with our more experienced/club players. Congratulations to all who expressed their interest and took part, and a big thank you to the Elmwood Tennis Club for their continued support of this event.

  • Our female champion for this year was Lily Doyle (Room 9), who won the final 6-3 against Evie Bertie (Room 5). Third place went to Tessa Meng (Room 15) who won the playoff match 6-4 against Amelia Smith (Room 18)

  • Our open champion for this year was Jake Llewellyn (Room 14), who won an extremely close final 7-6 against Oliver Parnham (Room 12). Third place went to Monty Hampton (Room 4) who won the playoff match 6-3 against Kingston Laifa (Room 5)

Archie and Eliza Crowned 2021 Tennis Champions

Records were broken at this year’s Heaton Tennis Championships. Participation numbers were at an all-time high in the boys’ grade, a back to back male champion was crowned, and twin sisters battled it out in a final that had over 20 match points! It was a perfect day for tennis, and a pleasure to see our Heaton participants supporting one another and playing with great sportsmanship. 

We would like to thank Ashley and the team from the Elmwood Tennis Club for their continued support, and for providing such amazing facilities for our annual event.

Heaton Tennis Championships 2020

With our largest participation numbers in six years, the Heaton Tennis Championships proved to be a huge success for both our beginner and experienced players. There were some fantastic battles and close contests throughout the day, and it was a pleasure to see students living our Heaton values and 6C’s throughout. A big thank you to all participants and congratulations to our 2020 champions!
