Thank you to all of our Heaton community for your efforts in making our 2021 Heaton athletics days a success. The hard work and dedication shown by our staff and sports leaders enabled our students to enjoy a relaxed day of participation, competition and house spirit.
An extra special mention to Dean and Warren for all of their efforts in preparing our Heaton fields so we would hold this event on home soil. With the cancellation of the CAIMS Athletics Championships this year, it was even more important for us to enjoy the day, get involved and support each other during this school-wide event.
Any cancellation information will be posted on the PSC Website (www.primarysportscanterbury.org.nz). There is no postponement date so any cancellation will not occur unless there are extreme weather conditions. Please consult with Mr Evers if you have any concerns re: weather

If you are transporting your child to and from the venue, you are able to go directly from your home to Ruapuna Park (you will not need to bring your child to school first). If you are a student that is requiring transport assistance (Tom Griffin, Zac Kelly, Josh Exon), you will need to come to school with all the equipment you need (including your bike and helmet) and then meet Mr Evers at the flagpole at 9:20am. Your bikes will be transported to/from the venue by Stacey (Liam’s mum) and you will be transported in the Heaton van. A big thank you to Stacey for your support, it is greatly appreciated. N.B. Lucy O.C (Room 8) will be making her own way to the venue but will be getting transported back to Heaton in the school van.
What a tremendous day of racing from our 40 cross country athletes, we are so proud of your grit and determination! Thank you to all participants, Miss V and our three dedicated sports leaders for a fantastic day!
All race results can be accessed using the following link:
We had multiple top 30 finishes this year and two athletes finished with an extraordinary 3rd place overall. Well done Aidan F (Room 12) and Mason M (Room 1)
Congratulations to all athletes who took part in the 2021 Heaton cross country!
The efforts from our Heaton Sports Leaders who set up, marshalled, timed and recorded all four races was fantastic, and their efforts and dedication throughout the day was greatly appreciated.
The top 10 finishes in each race will now go on to represent Heaton at the Cross Country Championships, held at Halswell Quarry on Wednesday 23rd June. We wish them all the best and congratulate them for their amazing results.
Every Tuesday, regardless of the weather, Rock Climbing students should meet in the canteen foyer and eat their lunch at 12:20pm
Students should be dressed in their P.E. gear and prepared to go straight home, as we may not return in time to go back to class to pack up. All the equipment is provided at the Roxx, but it can be very cold in the building so bring your jersey.
Transportation (either in a parent vehicle or the school van) will leave at 12:30pm
The lessons begin at 1:00pm or whenever everyone arrives. Sign in at the Roxx
At 2:30pm, students will gather outside the Roxx and return to school in parent transport or the school van.
Depending on the traffic, we will arrive back at school between 2:50pm and 3:00pm. If the bell has not rung, wait in the canteen foyer until the bell has rung. If you are traveling with your family (who has provided transport), you may leave after dropping off other students.
Please contact Ms Green if you have any questions or concerns. Come to Room 5 or email at greenj@heaton.school.nz.
Transporting Parent Information
Thank you for making this opportunity available to our students!
The schedule is:
12:30pm: Pick up at school (please park on Heaton street and come to the canteen foyer to pick up the students)
12:50 – 1:00pm: Drop off at the Roxx, located at the corner of Waltham Road and Bryon Street. The door is on Bryon Street. Students can enter on their own.
2:30pm: Pick up at the Roxx (Again, no need to enter, just pull to the side and students will jump in)
2:50pm: Drop off at school entrance (Heaton St) near the front gate. If later than 2:50pm, drop off at one of the 10 min carparks on Heaton Street and students can enter school grounds on their own. Once dismissal happens at 3 pm, it’s impossible to drive out of school until 3:15 because of student traffic. You and your child can depart after dropping off the other students.
We are incredibly proud of our 40 athletes who represented our school so brilliantly at this year’s CAIMS Swim Championships. Congratulations to all swimmers on a fantastic effort.
