Heaton Cross Country Team 2026

Meeting Time: All students are required to meet Mrs Henderson in the Heaton Hall at 8:10am. The team bus will depart promptly at 8:30 am, so please ensure you are on time and organised. Students should be wearing their PE uniform.

If your parent/caregiver would prefer to take you directly to the venue in the morning, they must contact Mrs Henderson via email before Wednesday 3rd June.

Event Times:

  • From 9.15am – Registration and bib collection
  • 10.10 am: Year 7 Girls
  • 10.30 am: Year 7 Boys
  • 10.50 am: Year 8 Girls
  • 11.10 am: Year 8 Boys

Marshalling Assistance: If you are attending the event to watch and support your son/daughter and you are able to assist with marshalling duties on the track, please contact Mrs Henderson. Any support would be greatly appreciated.

Cost: As the Cross Country Championships is an opt-in (user pay) opportunity, participation will incur a cost that covers the return bus trip to Ascot Park. Equipment Requirements:

  • Heaton PE Kit
  • Packed lunch with sufficient healthy snacks
  • Lots of water
  • All relevant personal medication e.g. ventolin, epipen
  • Black or navy tracksuit pants, Heaton jacket and a warm-over garment top
  • Spare shoes
  • Spare socks
  • A plastic bag to transport any wet or muddy clothing
  • Given the time of year, the terrain may be damp or muddy. While spikes are permitted on this surface, sturdy running shoes are sufficient.

Additional Information: If, for any reason, you no longer wish to take part or are sick on the day of the event, please email Mrs Henderson asap so the opportunity can be offered to another student.

Inter-Schools Triathlon 2026

If for any reason you are no longer able to take part in this event, please email Mrs Henderson (hendersonk@heaton.school.nz) before the event so Primary Sport Canterbury can be updated on the changes.

Venue: South Eyre Rd (near West Eyreton) ~ 27km from the start of South Eyre turning off Tram Rd at Clarkville. The event is held on private property so no site inspection or swimming in the lake is allowed. Reporting & Event Times: Reporting time for marshal leads is at 9:15am and 9.30am for supporting marshals.
The race briefing will commence immediately after reporting at 9:45am. Because of the potential
traffic hazard, all competitors must report at this time. The first race will commence at 10.25am. It is
unlikely that any competitors who report late and who miss the briefing will be accepted for racing.
Bikes must be left in transition until all competitors in all year groups have finished their races.

Race Times: 

Marshalling for each year level/gender will be made available closer to race day, but will be
approximately 20 – 30 minutes before race start.

  • 11:35am – Year 7 boys start time
  • 11:55am – Year 7 girls start time
  • 12:10pm – Year 8 boys start time
  • 12:20pm – Year 8 girls start time

Collecting Bikes: All bikes must be left in transition until all competitors in all age groups have finished their races.

Cancellation: Any cancellation information will be posted on the P.S.C Website (www.primarysportscanterbury.org.nz). There is no postponement date, so a cancellation will not occur unless the weather conditions are extreme.

Equipment Requirements:

  • All Triathlon race equipment i.e. bike, helmet, togs, towel etc.
  • Heaton PE Kit with Hat
  • Packed lunch with healthy snacks & water bottle
  • All relevant medication e.g. ventolin
  • Spare clothes
  • Sun protection
  • Weatherproof jacket (please check the forecast the night before as we have had wet weather in previous events)

Additional Notes:

  • Reminder this is a private property that we are on, and the host has asked if NO DOGS could please be brought onto the private property.
  • Please remind your students to wear appropriate swimming gear and to have warm clothes to put on after their race as the water could be a bit cold.
  • Please remind your students to bring a spare pair of slides/shoes to wear into the marshalling area as this is gravel.

Transport and Meeting Times

  • For those people who are meeting us at the event, please arrive no later than 9:30am to allow time to get to the safety briefing which begins at 9:45am.
  • If your child is being transported in the Heaton Mini Van, please meet us at the flag pole no later than 8am to allow us time to load the school van, rack our bikes and get to the venue in plenty of time.
  • If you are supporting with transporting bikes, please meet us at the Heaton Flag Pole at 8am. You can bring your vehicle up the driveway and park in front of the office.
